Operations and Communications Internship

May 2007 - August 2007

The Center for International Policy has a new unpaid internship open for the summer 2007 semester. Preference is given to those candidates who are available to work at least four full days per week for the entire term. The Center will complete any evaluations or paperwork necessary for interns to receive academic credit for their work in the office.

Internship candidates should have excellent writing, research, computer (Microsoft Office, Dreamweaver, Internet), and communication skills, and should be dedicated to CIP's mission and projects.  At least four full days are required and internships are done on a voluntary basis only

After gaining training and experience at the Center, interns have gone on to positions with the Arias Foundation, the Institute for Policy Studies, RESULTS, Micro Credit Summit, Congress, Peace Corps and other non-governmental organizations, government and business. The Center intends to prepare interns to work on behalf of human rights and democratic values in foreign policy, whether in a career or as an informed citizen and voter.

Internship Description

The operations and communications intern will work directly with the management team. He/she must demonstrate initiative, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, solid writing abilities and a commitment to CIP's mission.

Responsibilities

-maintain organization’s various contact lists
-assist in distribution of media releases
-maintain archive of press clips and media mentions
-update non-program pages of CIP’s website
-assist in the creation of action alerts on important legislation
-general office support: answer phones, distribute mail, monitor supplies, update office calendar

The deadline for applications is April 16 , but the position will be filled by the first applicant to meet all the qualifications. Candidates may begin the application process by submitting the following:

    - any special skills you would bring to the internship
    - the dates you are available to work and for how many hours you can work each week
    - where you learned about our internship opportunities
    - an acknowledgment that the internship is unpaid
  • Résumé including references
  • Transcript(s) - may be unofficial, and may come separate from the rest of your materials

Optional

  • Short writing sample - 3-5 pages.
  • Recommendation letter(s) - may come separate from the rest of your materials.
