The guest of honor at CIP's 40th anniversary on October 9th, 2015 was Óscar Arias Sánchez, president of Costa Rica from 2006 to 2010. He previously served as President from 1986 to 1990 and received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1987.

CIP was the principal supporter of Arias' peace plan in the United States.  After the plan was signed, CIP established a joint program with the Arias Foundation in Costa Rica to monitor the implementation of the peace plan.

In his address, Arias quoted Pope Francis, “’If we want security, let us give security.’ How can we give security? By investing in human development before we invest in weapons, and understanding that security does not lie in weapons or fences or armies.”
